Idaho Peak, Selkirk Range, BC | 14.5km, 1050m

After weeks of seeing articles about the Perseids meteor shower, it was finally August 12th - the peak of the meteor shower. I was lucky enough to rope Ash and some friends into a little overnight trip up to Idaho Peak.

We took the Wakefield trail up since the old road from Sandon is washed out. We were able to cut off about 3km at the start since we could drive up to the upper parking area. There was an old truck and old house at the upper lot!

The start of the trail is well indicated. There was even a fun sign about how ore used to be transported via rawhide.

The trail started in a dense forest but quickly opened up to views of Slocan Lake. The trail is very gradual and I would definitely come back to run up.

The trail crosses mine tailings and rail tracks and leads up to a fire watch tower.

The trickiest part of the trail was this washed out avy path.

The trail reaches the upper parking lot that you used to be able to drive up to.

The sign at the top reminds us to bring our camera! Good thing I brought a professional photographer!

The summit register had a message from the Hot Tomato! A little note from Colorado.

We then set up camp and settled in for a beautiful sunset, meteor shower and sunrise.

Reminder - mountains are cold at night, even in the summer! It was surprisingly windy at night and we took safe harbor on this bench.

We could see the Valhallas, Kokanee Glacier, Silverton, and New Denver from the summit. And so much more.
