Gothic Mountain, Crested Butte, CO | 8mi, 2903ft

Every time we visit Crested Butte, we ski or mountain bike, but we rarely have explored by foot. We were ready for something new, and set out to get a new view of Crested Butte Mountain.

The hike up Gothic Mountain starts up Washington Gulch on trail 403. We passed the usual mountain cows in the area as we approached Gothic.

   

The hike up the side of Gothic was quite vertical and had sparse switchbacks.

   

There’s a couple line choices near the top where you can cross over the false summit or traverse the scree around the side. We chose the side.

   

The summit delivered well earned views!

 

 

And the dogs did great and loved it. They even spotted a mountain goat! (not pictured)
